Sarah Mickey from Southern Arkansas University will share how she approaches teaching History of Rock as a facilitator rather than a content expert—designing learning experiences that prioritize student voice, interpretation, and authentic engagement over coverage. In this session, she will explain her audio- and video-only participation model, why she eliminated text submissions entirely, and how spoken responses naturally deter AI use by revealing comprehension through tone, cadence, and pronunciation. Sarah will also discuss how these multimodal responses complement a structured Gen Ed course design with mastery-based quizzes and traditional assessments, positioning student reflection and peer interaction as the connective tissue of the learning experience. Attendees will gain practical insight into facilitating large-content courses while preserving academic integrity, student agency, and meaningful dialogue.
