Designing Engagement for Generation AI Z

Generation AI-Z students aren’t “checked out” — they’re processing and participating differently. They value time for reflection before responding and thrive in environments that provide social learning feedback loops. This session introduces an andragogical model that supports these preferences while remaining AI-resilient, using asynchronous discussion spaces and multimedia responses to promote engagement and equity across online and on-campus settings. Participants will see how you can use AI enabled tools to serve as a central hub for these activities—enabling video, audio, and image-based discussions that reflect Gen AI-Z’s authentic communication style. The session will also demonstrate how AI-assisted, outcomes-based rubrics make learning visible, measurable, and more efficient for instructors.
