AI Enabled and Resistant Online Classroom: A practical guide

This presentation highlights how instructors have reimagined assignments through multi-modal assessments to address these challenges. Using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, we showcase how students can demonstrate their understanding through diverse formats like video reflections, audio recordings, annotated images, and screen-sharing presentations. These approaches foster deeper engagement, promote equity, and mitigate the challenges posed by AI-generated text content.

Additionally, we’ll demonstrate how AI can also play a role in helping instructors make the move from their traditional assignments to multi-modal assignments aligned to their learning outcomes, complete with rubric and AI coaching for the students if the instructor desires. The AI Coaching will be Harmonize specific but we’ll talk about how to use standard AI to achieve the first two even if you’re not a Harmonize customer.

Attendees will leave with practical ideas and real-world examples for transforming discussion forums and online assessments into dynamic, inclusive, and authentic learning experiences. Whether you’re seeking to enhance student engagement or future-proof your teaching against evolving technologies, this session offers examples from the trenches of how our instructors are moving forward.

Examples of these reimagined assignments will be demonstrated using Harmonize. However, the principles and strategies shared are universally applicable, providing actionable insights for educators regardless of the platforms they use.
